TV animation is a varied and exciting landscape full of storytelling possibility! What makes writing a pilot for animation different than live-action? In many ways, not much! Good writing is good writing.

But there are concrete tips, practical approaches and industry standards to follow so your pilot can stand out as better suited for animation - and it starts with an understanding of these fundamentals.

In this online class, students will develop their idea for an animated TV pilot, taking it from initial concept to first draft. Along the way each student will get a crash course in writing for animated TV, receive feedback in a writers room environment, and learn how animated scripts differ from live-action.

Each student will also receive one-on-one feedback of their completed pilot after the class ends.

Justin Michael is a veteran of TV animation. His work spans shows for kids and adults, quarter hours to half hours, and originals and IP across multiple genres. He’s taught screenwriting and comedy for over a decade independently and at UCB, and loves to help people’s art flourish and grow.
